It's a lovely old school chipper, the quality is great, portions are generous and the staff are always very friendly and chatty. And most importantly; the chips are probably the best in the area. In fact, I defy you to do better!
I feel very lucky to have a chipper like this a few minutes away from my house! -

Yum, yum, yum. I try to be good and not eat fish and chips too often these days but sometimes Argus is too hard to resist. They make lovely tasty chips, full of potato, none of that fries nonsense! The chips don't taste like they have been frozen, or along with spring rolls, just pure unadulterated old fashioned chip goodness.
Sausages are only mediocre so go for the fish which is excellent. And though you might feel guilty about the calories, you won't feel guilty about where the fish is sourced from, Argus have an ethical purchasing code and actively support small, local suppliers. Huzzah! -

Situated along West Street and straddling the corner of Argus Street, this fish and chip shop is decorated in a very enticing royal blue and it does this rightly so because the food is delicious! Argus' Fish Bar has received a number of awards and they advertise this proudly as they should do. 2009 also marked the shop's 50th Anniversary, which now means that these guys have been making the same gorgeous food for over 51 years and the customers continue to flood back.
With it's opening hours perfect for those either looking for a treat at lunchtime or to feed the family in the evening (or if you really want, maybe both) this is the ideal place to grab some food. The staff are also very friendly, serve you with a smile and the prices are very good. -

If you happen to be in the area and craving a portion of quality fish 'n chips, I'd suggest you drop by the Argus Fishbar. Think seaside quality cod and the type of chips that are sufficiently chunky (forget those horribly insubstantial French fries) and just the right amount greasy, without being stodgy. And if you are a fan of pies, you're in luck. There are a fair few to choose from. I'd recommend the chicken and mushroom, which goes brilliantly with mushy peas and a large helping of gravy 'n chips. Ahh.

I don't have fish and chips very often, but when I do I want them to be good, with crisp fish batter and fresh chips!
Argus is a long-established chippy which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year, and it's by far the best I've come across in this part of Bristol.
Located on West Street on the corner with Argus Street (hence the name), this is a clean, spick-and-span fish and chip shop with really friendly staff.
They've won awards for their food and good food hygiene, as you can see from the certificates and awards plastering the tiled walls of the shop - including getting five stars in the Fish Friers Quality Awards in 2009. They're generous with their portions, too, and are open both at lunchtime and in the evenings.
The fish batter is excellent and the chips are cooked just right every time - and another big bonus is that they source their fish from local suppliers. Highly recommended.
